There’s a special pleasure in being able to give back to the community I love by donating the work of my own two hands. I wanted to share about these two “hot off the studio tables” scarf and pin sets.
The aubergine and mauve ruffled scarf and floral pin supports Central PA public broadcasting, and will be a silent auction item at this year’s WPSU “Connoisseur’s Dinner” that will have a Downton Abbey theme.
This Victorian-inspired set is made of merino, silk and cashmere, and has has extravagant ruffles all along the border. The pin is embellished with beads that include carnelian, pearl, turquoise, and Swarovski crystals. Reversible, the scarf measures 12″ x 72″ and weighs a bit over 3 ounces — very light-weight, it can be fashioned in lots of different ways.
The second set will benefit PASA, the Pennsylvania Agricultural Sustainability Association, and will be a silent auction item at their February conference in State College.
I thought that the farmers and other environmentally-conscious folks would enjoy an “Earth and Green” color combination and felted leaf pin. I used merino and silk fiber, with a touch of very soft alpaca in the mid layer that extends to form ruffled edges and which creates warmth without weight.
The scarf is almost six feet long, and ten inches wide, and weighs less than three ounces: very light and soft.
The pin, embellished with wool embroidery and Swarovski crystals, can be used to fashion the scarf in different ways so the earth-toned side or the emerald green side is accented.
I work slowly — and with gratitude for the pleasures of feltmaking. I hope this is evident!
